soooooo in some recent terrible news the Canadian province of Quebec has officially banned Muslim women who wear the

niqab, burka and other facial coverings from accessing public services like libraries, healthcare facilities, buses….oh also they can’t attend universities or publicly funded schools in general anymore so things kinda suck up here in Canada

If y’all could send an indignant tweet or two in the Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard’s direction, and also the Quebec Liberal Party, who sponsored the bill, it’d be something non-Canadians can do. If you live in Quebec, just call up your

MNAs and tell them how fucked up this is.

“think of his career!”

oh, my mistake,
i was thinking of her life,
of the smile that’s left her eyes, of
how ashes taste, of how
i had to burn the outfit he touched me in
when it used to be my favorite

i was thinking of her,
as a person
instead of the money he’s capable of making

i know, astronomically, in the bank account,
his future means more than my body
because come on, didn’t he already
own me?
can’t i just get over it for him,
for the sake of propriety?

oh, my mistake,
there’s no fire here,
just ghosts, just
memory.

All right. All right…

We’ve tried PSAs, we’ve tried comics, we’ve tried videos, we’ve tried hashtags, we’ve tried everything. And now? Now we’re trying the Ryleigh Ryder way.

*Cracks knuckles*

KEEP YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF OF OTHER PEOPLE’S FUCKING WHEELCHAIRS YOU FUCKING FUCKITY FUCKS!

I HAD THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE SEIZE MY WHEELCHAIR AND BEGIN PUSHING! TODAY! T O D A Y ! THREE PEOPLE IN A SINGLE DAY!

HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT FOR YOU PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND?

A WHEELCHAIR IS AN EXTENSION OF A DISABLED PERSON’S FUCKING BODY! IT IS THE LITERAL EQUIVALENT OF THEIR FUCKING LEGS! BY GRABBING A WHEELCHAIR, YOU ARE GRABBING A PERSON’S BODY!

AND FUCKING GUESS WHAT?

IF YOU WOULDN’T TOUCH A PERSON’S BODY WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT, YOU SURE AS FUCK SHOULDN’T TOUCH A PERSON’S FUCKING WHEELCHAIR WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT!

A WHEELCHAIR IS THE ONLY WAY A DISABLED PERSON CAN FUCKING MOVE! BY GRABBING/PUSHING A WHEELCHAIR WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION, YOU’RE LITERALLY TRAPPING THEM AND TAKING AWAY THEIR AUTONOMY AND BASIC FUCKING MOVEMENT YOU FUCKING IGNORANT ASSHOLES WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

IT’S TERRIFYING! IT’S SO FUCKING TERRIFYING! IT’S THE EQUIVALENT OF RANDOMLY PICKING SOMEONE UP AND CARRYING THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE, YOU FUCKS!

FUCKING ABLE-BODIED PEOPLE

YOU’RE NOT FUCKING HELPING, YOU’RE NOT A FUCKING HERO, YOU’RE A FUCKING ASSHOLE WITH A HERO COMPLEX!

FUCK OFF!

…There.

Is it finally sinking in?

Because I literally don’t know how else the disabled community can get this across. We’re out of options. I’ve been on this website for five and a half years and we’ve said this message in every single way we can, and if anything, able-bodied people have only gotten worse.

So now we’re Ryder-ing up this message:

IF YOU’RE A FUCKING ABLE-BODIED PERSON AND YOU FUCKING THINK IT’S OKAY TO FUCKING GRAB SOMEONE’S  FUCKING WHEELCHAIR AND MOVE IT WITHOUT THEIR FUCKING PERMISSION, YOU CAN FUCKITY FUCK RIGHT THE FUCK OFF!

Well what d’ya know?

The Ryleigh Ryder way might actually have some merit after all.

(It’s worth noting in the two days since I’ve posted this, I’ve had my chair grabbed two more times.)

October is LGBTQ History Month.

Because of generations of activists who came before us, we have made incredible strides toward justice.

Because of unconscionable hate in the White House and beyond, we have so much farther to go.

Because of brilliant, dedicated people fighting all over the world for what’s right, we will get there.

Dr James Barry, the first doctor to perform a successful C section wherein both mother and child survived, was a huge champion of handwashing at a time when most doctors didn’t wash their hands. For this reason, many of the chilldbirths he delivered resulted in healthier babies and mothers. He was also a gay trans man, who specifically wrote that upon his death he wished for his body to be taken in its nightshirt, wrapped in his sheets as a shroud, and placed into the coffin so that nobody would see his body. His wishes were not respected, and as a result he was outed at his death.

i’ve also been informed he had a poodle. He named his poodle Psyche. I’d just like to congratulate him on being an excellent human being, who not only pioneered modern medicine but also had good taste in dogs. that is all.

If you’d like to know more there’s a delightful podcast out there called Sawbones that did an episode on him.

http://www.maximumfun.org/sawbones/sawbones-dr-james-barry

My least favorite fact about James Barry is that people hold him up as an example of a Powerful Woman, so dedicated to her desire to practice medicine that she spent her whole life as a man! What a pioneer!

Yes, we need to hear more about women in history, because there were thousands who made amazing contributions whose names we never learn.

But just…let us have our guy.

The fact that Barry wanted to be buried and remembered as a man, rather than taking satisfaction in going “HAHA I WAS A WOMAN THIS WHOLE TIME! SEE, WOMEN ARE JUST AS GOOD AS MEN!” Seems to strongly corroborate the fact that he was a trans man and not a “secret woman crossdressing for her career”, at least to me. It would be fantastic if those wishes could be respected in these days when trans people still face so much oppression for simply being who they truly are.

Dr James Barry should be lauded as a powerful, successful and skilled trans person and not as one of “history’s great women”.

white women get so hurt when non white women talk abt european standards of beauty and realize that white women aren’t the epitome of beauty and then they go ‘wow so much for women supporting women’ like why should i support standards that made me feel ugly for the majority of my life?why should i care abt you getting upset over some text post on a website when you have a bunch of magazines that validate you?if you really believed in women supporting women you’d understand why those posts are being made and the context behind them and you’d scroll past it without adding some unneeded comment abt how your feelings are hurt but it’s very obvious you throw that phrase around to make non white women feel bad for making you feel uncomfortable and not bc you support the meaning behind it
