hi! i haven’t posted on here in a while, and that’s cause i’ve been neck deep in my first semester of foundation year at risd! here’s some of my drawing work so far 🙂
A version of my fantasy-ish reimaginings of the NGE kids. This one was heavily inspired by depictions of the Assumption of the Virgin and general Ascension paintings, since there’s always an ethereal, unreal, sometimes unnerving nature to how they are painted that gives a really neat and celestial feel, and which I thought was appropriate for Rei given her roles in the story.
It’s interesting how a lot of art depictions of saints or holy people involve pretty gruesome stories of agony and pain but also a sense of power through passivity, with maybe the art being less about the characters itself but more about the lessons they impart for the viewers…
